Sin embargo, el 96% del hidr\u00f3geno mundial se genera actualmente a partir de metano, un componente del gas natural. Este hidr\u00f3geno gris es barato (2 \u20ac\/kg) pero contaminante. En la primera semirreacci\u00f3n, el material activo (actualmente CeO<sub>2<\/sub>) se reduce al absorber calor y libera ox\u00edgeno. Posteriormente, en la segunda semirreacci\u00f3n, el material reducido reacciona con el vapor para oxidarse de nuevo, lo que finalmente produce hidr\u00f3geno de gran
