Closing the Cost Gap

Green hydrogen is one of the most powerful tools for decarbonizing the planet. However, industrial and transportation sectors will only adopt green hydrogen when its cost becomes competitive with fossil fuel alternatives. Currently, the cost of green hydrogen based on existing technologies is three to five times more expensive than grey hydrogen.

Electrolyzer-based technologies have led the way in the pursuit of viable green hydrogen generation. However, their reliance on electricity results in a high operational expense that prevents them from becoming a sustainable solution.

Hydrolyca’s patented method addresses the limitations of previous attempts of thermochemical cycles. This breakthrough technology also surpasses current and uneconomical electrolysis-based methods.
Harnessing Heat for Clean Hydrogen Production

Hydrolyca can use any heat source, including solar power, industrial waste heat, or renewable electricity, to convert water into hydrogen.

A key aspect that differentiates our method from similar ones is its reliance on rapid and brief redox cycles. The active material is reduced in the first half-reaction, absorbing heat and releasing oxygen. In the second half-reaction, the reduced material reacts with steam, re-oxidizing and producing hydrogen. The intrinsic efficiency of this process is over 80%.
